Brazil - 1912 - 1992
Noemia Mourão Moacyr was a Brazilian painter born in Bragança Paulista in 1912. In 1932 she began studying art with Di Cavalcanti, who she in turn married in the following year. From 1935-1940 the artist lived in Paris, France, and studied Art History and Philosophy at Sorbonne besides attending the Ranson and La Grande Chamumière academies. She also collaborated as an illustrator for the Le Monde and Paris Soir newspapers and was hired by the Radio Difusion Française to participate in a program about literature and art alongside Cícero Dias, Tavares Bastos and Marcelino de Carvalho. She returned to Brazil and began studying sculpting with Victor Brecheret.
