Central Gallery develops expositions and feeds the debate around contemporary art. In 2018, it moved to the historic building of IAB (Brazilian Architect Institute), designed by the renowned architect Rino Levi and located in the city center. This move reshapes the space and the activities of the gallery to establish more dialogue with the city and the public, in this way expanding the diffusion of current artistic production and increasing the potential of exchanges and partnerships.
The space’s new program, under the direction of Fernanda Resstom, and dynamic emphasizes the hybridity and multiplicity of contemporary art, believing that the content and the conversation proposed within the gallery can transform and connect ideas and people.
On the lower level of the IAB, with it’s legacy and heritage awarded three times (iphan, conpresp e condephatt), the gallery is located in the former location of the Clube dos Artistas e Amigos da Arte (Artists Club and Friends of the Arts), the meeting point of intellectuals in São Paulo from 1945 to the 1960s.
